KAPI-Kids At Play Innovators-Technology Awards for Digital Excellence at International CES 2014

Reyne RiceWe are pleased to bring you a special guest blog post by Reyne Rice, Trend Expert/Trend Hunter/Trend Analyst, CEO/ToyTrends, New York City, USA, on the recent Kids At Play Innovators-Technology Awards. Many of these award winners will be speaking at Digital Kids next month.

Digital innovators for childrens’ interactive technology products were honored and recognized for their latest creations at International CES 2014, with the announcement of the Kids At Play Innovator (KAPI) Awards. These award-winning manufacturers / developers were selected from a field of over 800 apps, toys, video games, and other products that were launched in 2013, and specifically targeted to kids, aged 0 to 14 years. CES 2014 is the annual technology conference where the biggest players in technology reveal their most important launches to kick off the new year. The KAPI Award winners were officially announced and celebrated at a black tie evening event at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel.

The most promising new achievements and key innovators in children’s technology are awarded this coveted top prize.  As one of the jurors for this award competition, it is always very challenging (and rewarding) to be a part of the lively debate which evolves around what is truly ground-breaking in this segment of the children’s technology sector. These products influence, guide, teach and engage our youngest consumers of technology, and are found both in physical form and on the screens of various devices.

The winners were announced by Robin Raskin, founder of Living in Digital Times, a key innovator, journalist and tech guru, a Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) board member and contributor to the CES annual conferences and show floor exhibits.  Warren Buckleitner, Ph. D, the Editor of the Children’s Technology Review and a columnist for the New York Times on children’s technology, was the other distinguished announcer of the event.

Narrowed down from an extensive list of over 800 official entries, the final top 8 awards were chosen by a juror team of 14 top industry innovators comprised of app and virtual world developers , tech and trend specialists, veteran tech reporters and entrepreneurs, hardware and software creators, educators , and industry analysts.

The playing field was comprised of new children’s technology introduced in 2013 from the extensive categories of apps, hybrid gaming introductions, hardware and software achievements, toys and video games, tablets, publishing, educational tech, and other pioneers in this fast-paced children’s technology industry.

What and Who You Will See at Toy Fair / Digital Kids

We spend a lot of time talking about Digital Kids (because that’s what we’re all about here) but with this post we want to take some time to share the latest from our marketing partner, and onsite co-location partner, American International Toy Fair. All Digital Kids Conference attendees have full access to the Toy Fair Expo floor.  And that’s saying a lot. The upcoming Toy Fair (February 16-19) is expected to be the largest toy trade show ever held in North America. The show has  surpassed a record-breaking 400,000 net square feet of exhibit space at New York City’s newly renovated Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

“Tens of thousands of visitors who come to the Toy Fair marketplace will be able to feast their eyes on the biggest show in our 111 years of operation!” said Marian Bossard, vice president of meetings and events at the Toy Industry Association (TIA), which owns and manages Toy Fair.

TF14Logo-cityTIAdates200This year’s expanded show floor is expected to welcome an upswing in attendees: These play professionals will be among the projected 30,000 visitors in attendance, exploring aisle upon aisle of 150,000 toys, games and youth entertainment products on display by more than 1,000 exhibiting companies.

Eager to count their treasured brands among the nearly 900 million licensed toys sold in the U.S. annually, key licensors from Disney, Warner Brothers, American Greetings, Sony, Sesame Street, Nickelodeon, WWE and ESPN have also registered in advance for Toy Fair ’14. Total licensor registration is up 10% over the same time last year.

“Whether you are looking to broker lucrative business deals, network with peers from around the world, take in the hottest toy trends, or participate in business-building seminars, Toy Fair is the place to be for anyone with a stake in the magical world of toys and play,” stated Carter Keithley, TIA President.
