Shai Samet is an experienced and award-winning privacy consultant and entrepreneur.
Samet is founder and president of the kidSAFE Seal Program. The kidSAFE Seal Program is a fast-growing safety certification service and seal program designed exclusively for children-friendly websites and technologies, including kid-targeted game sites, educational sites, virtual worlds, social networks, mobile apps, tablet devices, and other similar interactive services and technologies. Many well-known brands, including Cartoon Network, Fantage, Jumpstart, Pearson Education, and Saban Brands, are participating members in the program. The program was developed by Samet Privacy, an experienced and award-winning privacy services company based in Los Angeles, and contains an advisory board of some of the world’s leading Internet safety experts.
Samet is also an experienced consultant, Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), and former attorney with over thirteen years of experience in developing and implementing compliant privacy and data protection programs for large consumer-facing organizations, including many Fortune 500 companies. Samet has been repeatedly voted a “Best Privacy Adviser” by industry-wide surveys.
Samet started his privacy career with the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) in 1999 at the height of the information explosion and when consumer concerns over online privacy and safety first began to surface. Samet served as director of the ESRB’s Privacy Online Program, where he assisted more than 35 gaming companies develop and implement enterprise-wide privacy programs and consulted on such laws as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Samet was responsible for developing the ESRB’s “Safe Harbor” application under COPPA, which enabled the ESRB to become the first privacy seal provider to obtain safe harbor status from the Federal Trade Commission.
Samet is a frequent writer and speaker on topics related to children’s safety and privacy, including online and mobile issues.
