Harold Goldberg is an acclaimed journalist and author, having covered the video games industry for decades. He has written for The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, Vanity Fair, Talk, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Time Digital, USA Today, Family Circle, Boys’ Life, Wired, Esquire, Playboy, New York, Smart Money, The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, Travel and Leisure, Cosmopolitan, Reuters, Kotaku, and others.
Previously, he was a writer/consultant to Viacom’s sites, including VH1 Games, Comedy Central Games and CMT Games. He also created the critically lauded VH1 Game Break blog, which was featured in Newsweek. He is the former editor in chief of Sony Online Entertainment, who helped to shape the words for games, including “EverQuest,” one of Time magazine’s best games of 2000. At Sony, he created “Motherboard,” an online magazine featuring famed writers Michael Crichton and John Saul, actress Michelle Williams and director Gus Van Sant.
In April, 2011, he authored All Your Base Are Belong to Us, How 50 Years of Videogames Conquered Pop Culture. It is based upon 200 interviews and was featured in Vanity Fair, Wired and USA Today. And, in October, 2011, he worked with musician Anton Sanko, animator Bill Plympton and storyboard artist Dave Lowery to launch the online movie event, Playing With Fire. Over the years, he has received several awards, including the Western Publishers Award (the Maggie) for Best Feature Article, as well as a Folio Award.
